Dr. Jonathan Scherch is a social scientist focusing on bamboo and sustainable development. This includes looking at this plant as a viable non-timber forest product which protects against soil erosion and loss of water resources. He is the head of the Pacific Bamboo Resource Group. Dr. Scherch recently returned from teaching and researching at the Zhejiang Forestry University, in Lin'an City, China. His classes include experiential learning so students come to understand sustainable practices at home and beyond.
