Freehold Theatre engages artists of all levels in training and experimentation so they may become more innovative and heartfelt in generating theatre with a lasting impact on the community. Freehold Theatre believes theatre should inspire people to embrace the full range of human experience and connect all more deeply to themselves and one another. In order for theatre to accomplish this, it must be truthful, illuminate the unseen and articulate the unspoken. To realize this potential, there must be a place dedicated to research and experimentation in training and performance for working artists, inspired novices and willing audiences. The Heritage Institute (THI) has been a leader in progressive continuing education programs for K-12 educators for more than 25 years. Beginning in 1977 with a handful of field studies on the natural history of Washington, programs have grown to include courses in most subject areas and teaching methodologies across the K-12 curriculum. THI is dedicated to the philosophy that educating for humanity is a necessity if we are ever to achieve meaning, heart, peace and sustainability for the human family. We must support wholeness within each person as a foundation to create unity among individuals, communities and nations, and among humans and the great natural web of life of which we are a part. Workshops and field studies are offered throughout the four Northwestern states of Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho, while distance education programs reach teachers around the U.S. and the world. Global travel studies take groups of teachers to Asia, Hawaii, Europe and Central America for immersion studies in the natural and social history of other cultures. Staff Development for Educators (SDE) was founded by two educators with a revolutionary idea: teachers learn best from other teachers. Jim and Lillian Grant held their first teacher get-together in a school lunchroom in tiny Temple, N.H., more than two decades ago. Educators gathered from across New England to learn the best techniques from the best teachers in the region. Since then, SDE has grown to become one of America's leading providers of professional development resources for pre-K through grade 12 educators. Today, SDE provides timely solutions to teachers' staff development needs through seminars and conferences offered locally, regionally and nationally, presenting timely topics and classroom-proven strategies geared specifically to educators in grades K-12. Teachers attending an SDE event may earn graduate level quarter credit through Antioch University Seattle. To register download the syllabus/registration form (PDF).
