Admission Requirements

Participants in the professional mediation certificate program begin by taking one of the courses in the program, either the 40 hour Basic Mediation Training or the one-day Workplace Conflict Resolution training. In order to take the Family Mediation Training, you must have successfully passed the Basic Mediation Training. To register for any of these courses, contact the Center for Continuing Education at 206-268-4118.

Once you have taken Basic Mediation, you may apply officially for the certificate program, enabling you to register for and begin the Practicum.

International participants are expected to have adequate English language proficiency and appropriate visa status before taking courses. Students should meet one or more of the following English language test scores before they attempt to take any courses:

  • TOEFL: 500 (old) or 172 (computer-based)
  • MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): 72
  • SAT Verbal: 430
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEIC: 650

Application Process

After completing Basic Professional Mediation, you must apply for and be accepted to the Practicum to complete the Professional Mediation Certificate. To apply, contact Ryan Mattfeld in the Dispute Resolution Center training office at 425-339-1335, Ext. 6.  As part of the application process, you must pass an exam and have an interview with a Dispute Resolution Center staff member.

Fees and Tuition

Tuition for each course is payable prior to the first day of training unless other arrangements are made. Fees and tuition are subject to change. Total tuition for the program is $3,120 or $3,360, depending on choice of elective. All program materials are included.

Refunds
Full refunds are available if cancellations are made more than five business days before the first day of a course. Cancellations made less than five business days before the training will result in a cancellation fee of $35. No refund after training has commenced. Cancellations due to emergency situations will be addressed on an individual basis.
