ED 4514:  Case Management: Best Practices & Standards (6 CEUs)

Training Schedule

The course begins with a 2-hour mandatory orientation session for participants and their supervisors a few weeks before the first class day (usually held in late September).

Participants attend four 2-day class "modules" (all day Friday and all day Saturday) during October and November. A final half-day of student presentations of final projects and evaluation of the program is held in early December.

Fall 2010 Training Dates:

Thursday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon: Day One: Case Management Best Practices Introduction and Overview
(Mandatory for participants, and recommended for supervisors)

Friday Oct. 1 and Sat. Oct. 2: Module I

Friday Oct. 15 and Sat. Oct. 16: Module II

Friday Oct. 29 and Sat. Oct. 30: Module III

Friday Nov. 12 and Sat. Nov. 13: Module IV

Thursday, Dec. 2: 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Final day including participant presentations

There are approximately 60 hours of instructional time, total.

Tuition: $975 for the general public, $875 for non-profit employees.

This highly interactive class introduces theories and skills that support client change, such as theory of change, motivational interviewing, building rapport, keeping clients accountable and cultural competence. In addition, participants learn client assessments, writing case notes, charting and documentation and working with special populations. Participants learn effective strategies that address client barriers: substance abuse, mental health, criminal backgrounds, learning disability, domestic violence, homelessness and other disabilities. Participants gain practical information that will benefit their clients about the local economy and hiring trends, and help transition them into corporate America, making the best job matches for clients and marketing clients with barriers to employers. Participants also learn how to support client upward mobility with a particular focus on staying in the job, financial literacy and career advancement. Finally, case managers learn how to prevent burn-out and of local resources available to them that support client transitions.
