Anne Maxham, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, has been a core faculty member in the School of Education since 2000. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in writing, literature and literacy theory. Prior to coming to Antioch, she was Associate Director of Composition at Washington State University from 1990 to 2000. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Idaho and her research interests include adult learning and writing apprehension, writing communities and qualitative research methodology.

Brandy Parris, Coordinator of Writing and Academic Support, has a Ph.D. in American Literature, an M.S. in Library Science, and an M.A. in Psychology. She has been teaching composition and working in the field of academic support since 1990. She has special interests in dissertation coaching, assisting writers overcome writing anxiety, and helping students improve their research skills.

Hidy Basta has a Ph.D. in Language and Rhetoric and an M.A.T. in  English as a Second Language from the University of Washington. Her research and teaching interests include critical discourse analysis, academic writing, language ideology and identity, bilingualism, and narratives. She taught several classes in Service Learning and the Interdisciplinary Writing Program at UW. Hidy is especially passionate about creating collaborative and supportive writing communities within the classes she teaches.

Elizabeth Burke is a skilled professional with 25 years of project management, strategic planning, coaching, facilitating and consulting experience. She holds a master's from Antioch University Seattle and specializes in work with organizations wanting to revitalize themselves and pursue creative new endeavors and individuals wishing to grow beyond their current horizons.

Carolyn Hall graduated from the Evergreen State College and earned her teaching certificate and master's degree in education/human development form Pacific Oaks College. She is also an alumna of the Hedgebrook Writers Community. She is a writer, has published short stories and currently has two novels in process. She is also a jewelry designer. She taught for many years in the Seattle Public Schools, winning the Washington State Excellence in Education award in 1987. She has also been a faculty member in the AUS School of Education, teaching literacy and classroom management courses. She is a guest presenter at The Richard Hugo House and an adjunct professor of Integrated Studies at Cornish College of the Arts. At AUS, she teaches a variety of writing classes, from the personal essay to developmental writing.

Vincent Kovar holds an M.A. from Seattle University and a double bachelor's from the University of Washington. In addition to teaching at Antioch, he is also an instructor at the University of Phoenix and Richard Hugo House. Kovar is a consulting instructional designer for large software and telecom firms as well as a copywriter and scriptwriter for both private industry and public institutions. Kovar is editor/curator of Gay City Health Project Anthologies and was recently editor-at-large at 'mo Magazine. More than 100 of his articles, short stories, essays and plays have been published in the U.S. and abroad.

Rebecca Rauve Davis holds a Ph.D .in English Literature with a Certificate in Theory & Criticism from the University of Washington, and earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Purdue University. She has been teaching literature, composition and fiction writing for the past 12 years. Before coming to Antioch, she worked with psychology and sociology students in the UW’s interdisciplinary writing program. She is particularly interested in the intersection of narrative and identity, and in the power of language to affect conscious states.

Susanne Sturm has an M.A. in Applied Behavioral Science from the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS). She has been a consultant and educator in the field of psychology and community education for the past twenty-five years. Currently, she provides academic and creative writing assistance to undergraduate and graduate students with various learning and writing challenges, assisting students in improving their knowledge and skill in all standard writing conventions, researching and writing academic papers and increasing flow of ideas through creative writing. She has special interest in developing plans, objectives and strategies to help students with academic challenges decrease anxiety about all aspects of learning and writing in order to have successful educational experiences.
