Sustainability and Living Green
At Antioch University Seattle, our strong community is deeply committed to both social and environmental sustainability. We are making meaningful changes – within our institution and within the greater community – to pursue these values.

- In 2008, AUS became a signatory of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC).

- In April 2010, AUS core faculty Kate Davies participated in “Improve Your Sustainability Credentials: Opportunities for Continuing Education and Certification” at the Go Green Conference in Seattle. AUS also partnered with GreenFestSeattle.
- 2011 Recyclemania results are in, and AUS won second place in the country in the Grand Champion category and third in the
Waste Minimization category! The Grand Champion schools are those that, based on their combined results, demonstrate the greatest achievement in both source reduction and recycling. Antioch’s cumulative recycling over the 10-week competition was 70.91 percent! We placed third in the Waste Minimization category. Schools compete to reduce municipal solid waste (including both recyclables and trash). Over 10 weeks, AUS created 6.59 pounds of waste per person.
- AUS celebrated Earth Day 2011 with a its second annual Make Yourself Re-useful Art Exhibition. The winning entry:


- In May 2011, AUS celebrated National
Bike-to-Work Day by hosting its Alternative Transportation Breakfast for those commuting to campus using reduced-carbon or no-carbon forms of transportation. Members of the campus community showed support by walking, biking, busing and ridesharing to cut their carbon emissions.
- This year, we also helped license over 30 Undrivers!
