Position Summary

Main responsibilities include teaching, advising and student recruitment in the Couple and Family Therapy (CFT ) program – a COAMFTE accredited clinical training program. Other responsibilities involve assisting colleagues with program coordination and administration, as well as appropriate professional and scholarly activities. The School of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy is an interdisciplinary graduate school offering the M.A. in psychology with concentrations in art therapy; in Couple, and family therapy; in mental health counseling; and in integrative studies in psychology. The School also offers a Psy.D. in clinical psychology and maintains a community counseling and psychological clinic in which graduate students may take a portion of the clinical training. Faculty members in the School are practitioner-scholars who are encouraged to maintain their own practices in their respective mental health disciplines as well as to teach, to conduct research and to assume responsibilities of colleagueship in a shared governance environment.


Essential Functions/Accountabilities

Academic

  • Teach in the CFT program. Course assignments will be made in consultation with the Psychology programs Chairs and Dean in light of specific individual and program needs. Full-time teaching load consists of seven 3 credit courses.
  • Provide advising to students in the CFT program. Conduct admission interviews with applicants and make recommendations to the program Chair regarding admissions decisions in individual cases; follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring.

Administration

  • Participate in regularly scheduled program meetings.
  • Serve, as requested by the program Chair or School Dean, on special committees and task forces for the School of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy.
  • Serve as teaching liaison for several content areas in the CFT program.

Professional/Scholarly Activities

  • Contribute to the creation and sharing of knowledge, through active participation in dialogue with professional peers and colleagues in the MFT discipline, profession and/or educational community.
  • Participate in activities for professional development (conferences, seminars, workshops, courses) as relevant to areas of special expertise and interest.
  • Engage actively in the clinical practice and/or supervision of therapy as a LMFT in the State of Washington.

Community Activities

  • Participate in community service activities, including various forms or professional practice and/or participation in community organizations.

Campus-wide Activities

  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the Faculty Council, and in related committee work.
  • Participate in other campus-wide faculty and all-community events.

Qualifications
  1. Doctoral degree in clinical psychology or its equivalent from an accredited institution with an emphasis in couple or family therapy, Clinical Membership in AAMFT and AAMFT-approved Supervisor status preferred.
  2. Licensed or licensable as an MFT in Washington State.
  3. Prior teaching experience at the university level, preferably with an adult student population.
  4. Must demonstrate capability to work and teach effectively in a multiracial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds.

Physical and Mental Demands

This position may interact with various sources of information and with persons involved with sensitive or confidential issues. The performance of the administrative support and duties requires a high degree of accuracy. This position frequently must prioritize tasks with little supervision.
