Core Value: Experiential Learning

All Antioch Academic Programs Incorporate Experiential Learning Into the Curriculum

Antioch College implemented one of the nation's first 'coop' programs in 1921, offering students the option to alternate classroom learning with work placement. The practice of 'learning by doing' and bringing experience back to the classroom for reflective discussion is part of the Antioch experience today. In addition to drawing from the experience of adult students in the classroom, examples of experiential learning include:

  • Classroom observation and student teaching in the School of Education
  • Internships at the on-campus Community Counseling and Psychology Clinic and other mental health clinics for master's and doctoral programs in the School of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy
  • Change projects that ask master's and certificate program students in the Center for Creative Change to identify an organizational issue and propose solutions with the collaborating organization
  • Documenting work/life experience for credit in the BA Completion program and completing a capstone project that may result from an internship or independent study
